Interactions between common law, constitutional law, statutory law and regulatory law also give rise to
considerable complexity. In law, a contract is an agreement between two or more parties, that if it contains the
elements of a valid legal agreement is enforceable by law or by binding arbitration. The trustee is obliged to
administer the trust in accordance with both the terms of the trust document and the governing law. Tort law may
also be used to compensate for injuries to a number of other individual interests that are not recognized in
property or contract law, and are intangible. When a constitution establishes a federal state, it will identify the
several levels of government coexisting with exclusive or shared areas of jurisdiction over lawmaking, application
and enforcement. Conflict of laws, often called private international law in civil law
jurisdictions, is less international than public international law. Jurisdiction draws
its substance from public international law, conflict of laws, constitutional law and the powers of the
executive and legislative branches of government to allocate resources to best serve the needs of its native
society. Colonial expansion spread the civil law system and European civil law has been adopted in much of Latin
America as well as in parts of Asia and Africa. Interactions between common law, constitutional law, statutory law
and regulatory law also give rise to considerable complexity.
